ATHLETICS

Central Wilkes Middle School is part of the Blue Ridge School Athletic Conference.  Athletic participation creates a valuable experience for middle school students. It is our goal to maintain both a strong academic and athletic program.  Students who wish to participate in athletics at Central Wilkes Middle School must meet certain eligibility requirements. The following is a brief description of the requirements:

 

  • A student must pass three of the four core subjects during the 9 week grading period prior to athletic competition. 
  • A prospective athlete must have had 85% attendance (no more than 12 absences) during the previous semester.  For eligibility purposes, excused and unexcused absences count the same.
  • A student-athlete must live in the Central Wilkes Middle School District (see WCS Athletic Handbook for details).
  • A student-athlete cannot reach the age of 15 on or before August 31st.
  • A student-athlete must receive a medical examination prior to the first practice.
  • A student must be in attendance one-half of the school day to attend any after-school activity.

 

The following interscholastic sports are offered at Central Wilkes Middle School:

Boys Basketball/ Girls Basketball/ Cheerleading

Boys Baseball / Girls Softball / Football

Boys Track / Girls Track/ Girls Volleyball

Boys Soccer / Girls Soccer / Wrestling/Golf

 

Team members represent Central Wilkes Middle School when in uniform or traveling as a group.  These athletes must show pride and respect for themselves, our school, and opposing teams.  A technical being called on a student or coach may disqualify our team from participating in the next game. This is left to the discretion of the school principal.
