All athletes trying out will need to have everything completed on DragonFly and must be eligible to compete by having passed 5/7 classes and having missed no less than 13 days of school.

Wireless Communication Device Policy - Reminder
At Central Wilkes Middle School, we believe in the importance of being present and staying focused on growing and learning. That is why cell phones, smartwatches, or any other wireless communication devices should not be seen or heard in the classroom or in the hallways of our school. Here is the discipline matrix for our school regarding phones for each breach of the policy:
Warning and a reminder to put the cell phone in their locker. Students receive a minor.
Teacher takes and stores the cell phone in a secure location in the main office for the day. The student can pick up the cell phone during the dismissal period. The student receives a second minor.
Teacher takes and stores the cell phone in a secure location in the main office until the parent picks up the phone. The student receives a third minor.
Teachers takes and stores the cell phone in a secure location in the main office and a parent/guardian must pick up the phone. The cell phone is banned from school and the student receives an ODR.
Our aim is to provide a safe and distraction-free learning environment for all students. CWMS sees the repercussions of cell phones in the learning environment, the risks associated with the addiction of cell phones, and the stress, anxiety, and opportunities for bullying that cell phone use can entail. Students always have access to call their parents in the front office, and families can call the main office to communicate with their children.

Inclement Weather Protocols- Reminder
Winter is here, and with it a potential for inclement weather days. Please see our inclement weather protocols.

Here are some key points from the weather protocols:
There are two kinds of inclement weather days - Remote Learning Days and No School Days. Please be sure to double check the language used for the specific day assigned to an inclement weather day to ensure you know the protocol.

No School Days mean that your child does not have to complete homework on that day and they are not supposed to check in for attendance purposes. This day is treated like a Holiday.

Remote Learning Days mean that your child has to complete remote learning day activities and check in via email, Remind, or Zoom in order to be counted present for that day.

On a two hour delay, your child’s bus will arrive two hours late.
Every effort will be made to make the call the day before, but this may not always be possible. There is an extensive process for making the call to modify or cancel a school day. The entire process is outlined in the letter attached to this email.

YMCA ACCESS Tutoring Program
Does your child need help in their classes? YMCA Access Academy, a FREE tutoring program, is partnering with CWMS to help! We will have some of our own certified teachers providing tutoring instruction. Printed applications are available at the school.
