NC Check-Ins 2.0 and the Flexible Summative Assessment: NEW!
Dear Parent or Guardian,
As we begin this school year, Central Wilkes Middle School is participating in a new assessment designed for North Carolina students on Tuesday, December 10th. The assessment has a through-grade part and an end- of-year part.
In the through-grade part, your student will take up to three short classroom tests throughout the school year to provide you, your student, and his or her teachers with information about your student's understanding of mathematics. This will help you and your student's teacher understand what he or she knows and can do so additional instruction can be provided.
Instead of the end-of-grade test, your student will take a new assessment at the end of the school year. The question types and format of the new assessment are like the end-of-grade test, and it provides the same information. Students will receive an academic achievement level of Not Proficient, Level 3, Level 4, or Level 5.
Throughout the school year, we will share information from the classroom tests with you, so you know how your student is progressing. We know it is important for you and your student's teachers to have this information to ensure your student has a successful school year.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Takiyah McCathern- [email protected] Amber Little- [email protected]
Thank you!
To Keep In Mind ...
YMCA ACCESS Tutoring Program
Does your child need help in their classes? YMCA Access Academy, a FREE tutoring program, is partnering with CWMS to help! We will have some of our own certified teachers providing tutoring instruction. Sign up forms are available at the school.
Car Line Reminders
For 7th and 8th grade families who pick up their child in the afternoon car line - be sure to pull up to all available spaces in order to keep traffic moving. Also, this is a reminder to all 6th grade carline drivers that the first lane is reserved for buses, and the second lane in the parking lot is reserved for all cars. When you arrive, please drive down the second lane in the car line, and not the first lane.
Attendance Leads to Success - Fly Like A Falcon
As we continue to soar into the year, we want to emphasize the importance of your child's regular attendance. When your child attends school regularly, they can build stronger and more consistent friendships, engage in continuous learning, and build positive habits. We understand that illnesses and emergencies happen. However, when possible, we encourage you to schedule appointments and family trips outside of school hours.
Check PowerSchool Grades
Parents, please make sure that you're periodically checking your child's PowerSchool grades as we approach the end of the first quarter on October 23rd. If you have a question about how to access your child's grades, please stop by the main office so we can assist you.
Adopt-A-Classroom
Consider adopting a classroom! This allows you to directly support our students by donating to a classroom at CWMS. Your contributions will help us provide essential resources, supplies, and unique learning opportunities for a classroom at our school. Stop by our main office if you'd like to find out more!
