Mrs. Kendal Privette, 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Privette has taught seventh and eighth grade language arts and social studies in Wilkes County for more than twenty years. Her favorite aspect of Central Wilkes Middle School is its diversity, and her favorite attribute in a student is curiosity. She is an avid reader and runner and is active in a local church. Her two sons, Hank and Jack both graduated from Wilkes Central, and her husband, Chris is a local wood worker.

CWMS Students Win at James Larkin Pearson Poetry Competition

CWMS students won all the top middle school awards at the First James Larkin Pearson Poetry Competition at Whippoorwill Academy and Village. Judge Bud Caywood chose the winners from poetry written by students from Wilkes and Caldwell Counties. Eighth grader Lyndsey J won 1st and 2nd place, Meagan B. won 3rd. Honorable mentions for middle school went to Jennifer G., Payton M., Brianna A., and Vincent L. Kendal Privette, eighth grade teacher at CWMS, promoted the poetry contest and collected the poetry for submission.

CONGRATULATIONS, Vincent L.: The First Member of the 10 Million Word Club

Our entire CWMS family congratulates Vincent L for his amazing accomplishment: documenting having read over 10 million words in Reading Counts. Capitalizing on the fact that CWMS students are voracious readers, our librarian, Mrs. Kelly Holleman, challenged students to reach a Wildly Important Goal School-wide of 333,333,333 words recorded in Reading Counts. Every student who passes a Reading Counts test contributes to our goal. Eighth grader Vincent L. has done his part in going above and beyond our wildest expectations by reading over 10 MILLION words (so far!) during this school year. Way to go, Vincent!
